This photograph shows an important stage of the traditional terracotta craft practiced by the Nayak tribe of Andhra Pradesh. A large circular potter’s wheel placed on the ground is strengthened with layers of clay and fibers. At the center, a clay vessel is being shaped carefully by the artisan’s hands. Nearby clay containers and simple tools reflect the authentic working environment and highlight the traditional skills of Nayak artisans.
