Abstract: The Chenchu tribe was recognized as Primitive Tribal Group in 1975 and they are mainly inhabiting the districts of Mahabubnagar, Prakasam, Kurnool, Guntur, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy and they are predominantly inhabiting in Nallamalai hills. The Integrated Tribal Development Agency for PTG (Chenchu) started functioning with its headquarters at Sudipenta, Srisailam, Kurnool District. The estimated Chenchu population in the Project area of all the (6) districts are 29,600. The report elicited to the administration structure and the implementation of Chenchu developmental programmes in the study area. The study reveals that a good number of educational institutions are functioning and allied facilities are provided to the Chenchus of this ITDA. As per the employment and career guidance cell maintain the list of essential news papers and magazines journals, books etc., useful for preparing tribal educated youth for various competitive examinations and for increasing general awareness are subscribed regularly. The food gathering and hunting Chenchus are now slowly settling in Agriculture. About 30% of Chenchus are now depending on agriculture, cultivating forest enclosures, assigned lands and private lands purchased and assigned to them. Under the agriculture sector there are various schemes are implemented in the study area and the details are discussed in the report. The State Government is releasing an amount of Rs. 5.00 lakhs every year to this ITDA under impact Money to spend for medical purpose in all the 6 Districts for the medical and health programmes. Drinking water bore wells are provided in the Chenchu gudems. The study also reveals that the permanent housing programme under JRY. The Andhra Pradesh Participatory Tribal Development Project (APPTDP) with the prime objective of creating food security to tribal families and to is till self-reliance and confidence in them in acting for their own development is being implemented in the ITDA, Chenchu areas for a period of 7 years beginning from 1994-95. The project is aimed at benefitting 5,070 families with 25,346 population with a total financial outlay of Rs. 7,96 crores. The complete details about the APPTDP project discussed in this report.
