Course Overview

Dokra Metal Craft is practiced by tribal artisan communities such as the Oraon Tribe, Munda Tribe, and Ho Tribe in Jharkhand. The craft uses the traditional lost-wax casting technique, one of the oldest metal casting methods practiced in India. Artisans create figurines, ritual objects, lamps, and decorative artefacts by shaping wax models, coating them with clay moulds, and pouring molten metal to form solid objects. The designs often depict human figures, animals, nature, and tribal life, reflecting spiritual beliefs and cultural traditions. Dokra artefacts are valued for their distinctive handcrafted texture, symbolic forms, and deep connection to tribal heritage.
