Survey and documentation of Megalithic sites of Assam

Abstract

The aim of the study was to document the megalithic monuments. In Assam, there are numerous megalithic monuments dotted along the foothills, forests, roadsides and the valleys of a number of districts inhabited by different tribal groups. Even in the city of Guwahati, certain localities originally inhabited by such tribes as the Karbis, and Rabhas megalithic sites were seen till a decade back. But, at present these sites are being dismantled or destroyed due to the expanding city life or due to the out migration of these communities. Documentation and policy framing for managing heritage and cultural historical resources.
