Keywords: Community Radio Stations provide a unique opportunity to reach out to various segments of the society in their own local language and inform them of their entitlements and responsibilities. Due to the high rate of literate and semi literate population living in far flung areas, Radio can be considered as an effective medium to bring awareness through different programs related to entertainment, current events, government schemes, better agriculture technology, health information, science, sports events etc. In line with the directives of the Central Govt, the Tribal Department of M.P. Govt. decided to extend this concept as Community Radio Stations for the Tribal Populated Areas of Madhya Pradesh to preserve and develop the Tribal culture. VANYA, a corporation under the Tribal Works Department has been assigned the task of setting up community radio stations in Tribal districts of MP. The Nalcha Block population is 1,12,617 Comprising Bheel Tribals in majority.

Abstract: Vanya Community Radio centre was established in Nalcha District Dhar (MP) on 26th August 2013. It is noted by visiting the Radio Station that the programmes have been broadcasted for 09 hours daily (in two shifts) since then. The programmes broadcasted during the morning shift (0730 to 12.00 Hrs) is repeated in the afternoon (16.00 to 20.30 Hrs). The broadcast range of the centre is about 20 Kms covering the nearby villages. An analytical study was conducted by the Tribal Research and Development Institute of Bhopal to determine the efficacy and usefulness of the programmes broadcasted from Vanya Community Radio Centre at Nalcha. The study concluded that the radio centre is being maintained properly and is following the issued SOPs. The programs are being broadcast in the local language covering a wide variety of topics ranging from current events to Government schemes, entertainment to health, livelihood, and education etc. A survey was also conducted in 18 Villages covering about 134 respondents who agreed that they found the programs interesting and useful. One of the most important observations noted in study was to increase the Broadcasting Tower height for sound clarity to farthest areas
