Abstract: The tribals are scattered all over India for ages, mostly living in pockets of tribal concentration in almost all the States. The project area of ITDA Khammam covers Khamma, Yellandu, Boorgampadu taluk in Kothagudem revenue division, Bhadrachalam taluk and Nugur sub-taluk in Bhadrachalam division and Sattupalli of Khammam district with an area of 12,175.1 s.k.m. The important tribes in the district as mentioned earlier, are the Koya, Nauaka, Konda Reddy, Gond, Chenchu, Thoti and Valmiki. The total 34 villages from all the 9 Blocks in the ITDA Project Area have been selected as sample for the purpose of field survey. The ITDA has received more than 90% of its funds from the Govt. of India and the Targets and Achievements mentioned in the report. from 1975-82 an amount of Rs. 326.06 lakhs have been spent on Minor Irrigation, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Co-operative, Industry, Education, Medical & health facilities and Rural Water Supply. The Girijan Primary Co-operative marketing and Credit Societies are playing a major role in providing credit and marketing facilities in the tribal area. Facilities for health and Medicare in the Tribal Areas are quite spasmodic. Nutrition programmes touch only the fringe of the problem. The project area suffers from very serious absence of communications. The funds provided for construction of roads hardly been used due to administrative lethargy. The benefit of electricity for agricultural and industrial development is rather poor. The programmes taken up are land development, soil conservation, ayacut development, supply of agricultural inputs like HYV, seed, fertilizers and pesticides at subsidized rates. Besides, technical help was also extended to the tribal farmers. The prospect of literacy levels for tribal males and females leveling up to the rank of non-tribals in the area seems to be a distant dream. The training programme has not made any mark on the tribals as no efforts have been made for monitor and follow them up. The study also emphasis on socio-impact, problems of planning and implementation, administrative aspects, other agencies working in the District of the study area. The present study also provided some suggestions and recommendations to various sectors in this report.
