Abstract: This is an edited book containing the papers presented in a national seminar on Tribal Women and Development held in Guwahati and organized by the Assam Institute of Research for Tribals and Scheduled Castes, Guwahati from April 4 to 6, 1992. The focal theme of the national seminar was Tribal Women and Development and the parameters formulated for presenting the papers were primarily, Role and Status of the Tribal Women in their societies through ages, The Traditional Tribal Institutions meant exclusively for Women and the prospect of their Utilization for the Development of the Tribal Women, Problems of Development of Tribal Women in different spheres, Development of Tribal Women as a part of Human Resource Development, and Changing Development trends among Tribal Women Retrospective and Perspective. Altogether 30 papers were presented in 6 academic sessions of the seminar and out of them 27 papers have been incorporated in this edited volume. All the papers or articles are centered on the concept of development, empowerment and the role and status of tribal women. The articles are unique in their own way, while also being distinct from each other.
