Abstract: | In the article Seventh Five Year Plan: Status Paper on Tribal Welfare, A.K Tigidi, IAS discusses the trends in Tribal Welfare Programmes, Sub-Plan Programmes, Programmes of Primitive Tribal Groups and MADA Pockets. Further, analysis of gaps, constraints and shortfalls and projections for the Seventh Five Year Plan are furnished. K. Mohanrao, in the article Socio-Cultural factors in Development of Tribal Areas, signifies the functionary role of socio-cultural practices in the process of tribal development. He argues the planners somehow missed to take cognizance of different stages of economy of tribals causing practical difficulties in implementation. The results of the article, Scope for Growing Fruit Crops in Tribal Areas of Adilabad District written by M Narayana Rao, shows that existing mango, cashew and other rained Orchards in some of the areas inhabited by tribals in Adilabad District open new avenues for increasing per capita income since the existing Orchards are about 10 times more remunerative than seasonal crops. K. V. Satyanarayanarao, in his article A brief note on 11th International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Science held at Vancover, Canada, explains the theme and special features of the Congress in detailed manner. He added that the theme of the Congress is more relevant and useful for an organization involved in applied research. A special article, Occupational Classification of Scheduled Tribes of Andhra Pradesh- 1981 written by G. Madhusudanrao, is published under the category of Census-1981 to enumerate the occupational pattern of STs who are engaged in agriculture, agriculture related activities and in household industry manufacturing, processing and servicing repairs. It has presented the statistics of percentage of workers to total ST population. The journal also listed out Tribal Development Schemes in Progress with respect to three districts of Andhra Pradesh- Vizianagaram, Ranga Reddy and Ananthapur and remembered the legacy of Prof. Christoph Von-Fuler Haimendorf- a callousness, pioneer and founding father of Tribal Development. |
